Comment:
- Dividend ex-ed for Inari (2.8sen) and Hevea (0.5sen) in Nov15
- It was a bullish month for me until the last few days of Nov15
- I am extremely delighted with portfolio YTD return of 89%, despite a recent slump in Johotin & HHGroup's share price.
- Three stocks in my portfolio get UMA query in Nov15, I think this won't happen again in my life.
- HHGroup became the 6th stock that exceed 100% paper gain.
- Add more Geshen's shares after its financial result announcement.
- Sold all Jadi shares after its financial result announcement.
- Add Notion to portfolio, another opportunistic investment.
- Total stocks remain at 13
Plan:
- Still plan to add more shares of BJAuto, Hevea & Scientex
- May want to add more stocks when there is significant market correction
- To watch plantation and O&G stocks
anticipated to see your O&G and plantation picks :)
ReplyDeleteMy favourite O&G and plantation stocks are no more secret here, hehe..
Deletereally? which are they? please share share >.<
DeleteMy preferred O&G stocks are actually not a real O&G stock, such as Coastal, Pantech, Favco. Early last year when I studied plantation briefly I picked TSH, Bumitama, First Resource, now might be different, need to study more.
DeletePantech is kcc pick as well, but it's cash flow is not leng, perhaps I'm wrong. Let me study more again, I might miss something... Thanks!
DeleteImpressive 89% :) any comment bout Heng Huat? Market took a big hiccup prior & after the QR. sold one third of mine to bring down to 0.18 average. Me too looking forward for ur OG picks
ReplyDeleteFrom Heng Huat's quarterly report comment, I think this kind of poor result will last longer. I will write a result review on it later.
DeleteHi, BD. Can you explain about your decision to buy into Notion Vtec? What merits do you see in this company as the company still reporting losses in the latest quarterly result?Thank you for sharing
ReplyDeleteHi kkw, you can refer to comment below by valuegrowth88, that's why I bought Notion's shares :)
DeleteHi BD, I also invested into Notion in end Nov. It is great to see you do so too as that really boost up my confidence on this stock as an 'opportunistic investment'.
ReplyDeleteI believe this Q's losses are mainly contributed by 15.2m derivative loss and 5.9m provision for impairment loss on plant & equipment. The impairment loss is one-off item, and the forex hedging has chance to take a turn to become a gain in next Q's result as USD was hedged at ~RM4.4 in end Sept. The USD in Oct & Nov are <RM4.4 and if Dec is not significantly higher than RM4.4, the derivative loss should not happen again in next Q.
Notion is at net cash position now.
Hope no other surprise, pls share with me if you foresee any other risk :)
Glad to have you on the same boat :) I hope that its revenue in FY16 can at least match FY15, and the management team won't simply diversify to other business but expand its existing manufacturing offering.
Deletei got notion at cost of 42.5, take care me
ReplyDeleteGlad to have you in Notion too, but you should ask big sharks to take care of u :)
DeleteHi BD, I think Hevea already had a run-up and upside will be quite limited. Flbhd may have better upside
ReplyDeleteHi. I will be more cautious with companies that gain a lot from forex this year, FLB is one of them. However, I do not mean that FLB is not a good company, it's actually very good with no borrowings and high dividend.
DeleteHi BD, im a newbie in share market and I learn a lot reading your blog. I read that Notion plans to venture into budget smartphone somewhere in May. Any news or updates about how it's doing? What's your opinions about that? Will be grateful if you can enlighten me on this.
ReplyDeleteHi CY, I'm glad that this blog helps you. Notion has terminated its smartphone venture, which was announced in the FY15Q3 quarterly report. I think it's a good decision.
DeleteHi BD, for NOTION, can you share your view on the high directors' fees, whether you think that is reasonable or the directors are just taking too much from the shareholders? This is an area that concerns me quite a lot that the directors may not be too committed to the business as afterall, they are getting handsome salary every year... please share with us your thoughts. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi BD, (for NOTION too), do you know why there is a huge loss in 2014 (-RM27.7million / -10.34sen EPS)? If the loss for 2015 was due to forex derivative hedging, what was the cause for 2014 loss? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI think Notion has too many exec directors, and yes, their pay are high and should be a concern to investors. There are many reasons for FY14 loss, I think the main culprit is poor sales and an impairment loss close to RM10mil on its Australia's investment. It also has some derivative loss and inventories written off.
DeleteHi BD, thanks for your reply. I had found the main culprit for FY14 loss - you are right that it was due to an impairment loss in an Australian silver mining company.
ReplyDeleteHi BD, have you seen this article before -->

Mind to share what your thoughts are?
For me, I personally think that the NOTION's management is not doing a good job. They have been making many wrong decisions in terms of business diversification and forex hedging. Do you agree that if we invest in a company, one of the primary things we should look at is the capability of the management team?
Perhaps this is also part of the reason why you mentioned it is an "opportunistic investment"? ^^
You're right, my "opportunistic investment" does not care too much about the fundamental and management of the company. I agree with icon8888's view, Notion's FY15Q4 is not a good quarter, largely due to lower revenue. For FY16Q1, I expect Notion will still get the forex gain on its USD sales, but huge reduction on its hedging loss (may even gain a little). I wish that its revenue will go back to RM60mil and no other impairment loss. If all these materialized, a quarter profit of RM10mil is not impossible. Anyway these are just my wishful thinking and you can ignore it :) If you want to invest in a fundamentally strong company for long term, may be you should not consider Notion.
Deletehi BD, thanks for your insights. I do not think that is your wishful thinking, in fact, that is highly possible. I will study this share in more detail before I take a move.
DeleteHi BD, can you write an article about Notion - e.g. what do you think of its current status and future prospect, etc... thanks...
ReplyDeleteHi Alvyn, sorry that I'm not going to write a specific article on Notion... I think its future will be challenging.
DeleteHi BD, that is ok. :) As you think that its future will be challenging, do you still intend to keep, buy more or sell your Notion shares?
DeleteI still keep but I think I should have sold, as my initial plan of this opportunistic investment is to sell after recent quarter result announcement. The result is disappointing though...
