Summary For April 2025
Portfolio @ End of Apr25
April was a month with roller coaster ride.
Stock market fell sharply after the US announced its shocking reciprocal tariffs on 2nd of April but manage to climb back up at the end of the month.
The KLCI still gained 1.75% in the month, and my portfolio manage to breakeven.
The stock market crawled back after the crazily high tariffs were paused for 90 days except for China.
Now more than a month has passed and it seems like no single deal has been agreed on. There seems to be no real breakthrough in the firm stance between the US and China.
Thus, there are still lots of uncertainties lingering around. The US's GDP in Q1 2025 has already shrank 0.3% QoQ.
Will the US give up on its original plan? Will the US and the world go into recession?
In order to keep more cash, I have sold some shares of EUPE and TAS.
Both were originally in my "core" portfolio and I decided to "downgrade" them.
I thought that EUPE will possibly report a so-so quarter report while TAS should be able to produce a good quarter report.
It turns out to be the other way round.
EUPE's FY25Q4 achieved PATAMI of RM12.3mil with EPS of 8.35sen in a quarter, compared to its share price of just around 90sen.
It's a shame that its Belfield Circadia & Edgewater Estate will not be launched until at least the end of the year.
TAS surprisingly registered a disappointing revenue of RM19.7mil and PATAMI of RM0.2mil (EPS 0.11sen) for its FY25Q3.
This is due to fewer vessels delivered to its customers.
Anyway, it has announced contract win from 2 new Indonesia customers for 6 units of tugboats worth RM38mil, to be delivered during FY2026.
It still has many units pending to be delivered, if the previous orders are not cancelled.
At the same time, TAS also announced 2sen dividend for its FY25, similar to FY24, with a DY of 3.3% at share price of 60sen.
Indonesia's nickel is still very important to the world especially for EV industry.
Even though current US president is rather anti-EV, I think US still wants to place nickel into tariff talk with Indonesia.
As for the trade war between US and China, I think if the US on its own continues to fight against the whole world, eventually it may back down.
However, if the US gets some important allies, then it may inflict more pain on China.
Anyway, if you want to talk to people with a gun pointed at their heads, sooner or later you will lose.
