My Portfolio Jul26

Summary for July 2026

Portfolio @ End of Jul26

My portfolio gained 3% in Jul26 but it still "underperformed" relative to the KLCI which jumped 3.6%.

MI and Teoseng both advanced 15% in the month.

MI is supposed to release its FY26Q2 result in August but it couldn't wait to release its magnificent financial result one month earlier.

Its FY26Q2 revenue of RM226mil & PATAMI of RM55.2mil (EPS 6.24sen) were both record high by a great margin, especially the PATAMI which increased 78% QoQ & 255% YoY.

More importantly, there was no significant net forex gain or one-off gain.

My Portfolio May26

 Summary For May 2026

Portfolio @ End of May26

May 2026 was a special month to my portfolio, represented by big rise in some stocks and big slump in some.

MI jumped 45%, JHM & Kobay both advanced 28% and 25% respectively.

Meanwhile, EUPE & MMSV both fell around 13%. Hiaptek, Hibiscus, Teoseng and TMCLife all dropped 8%.

Overall, my portfolio still able to close the month with a small gain of 1.3%, lifting the YTD gain to 12%.

KLCI suffered a 2.3% fall though.

My Portfolio Feb26

Summary of February 2026

Portfolio @ End of Feb26

Following a spectacular start to the year, Feb26 was not a good month for KLCI as it dropped 1.4%, bringing down the YTD gain to 2.2%.

My portfolio also lost 0.5% in the month, in which both JHM & MMSV suffered 19% & 16% drop respectively after posting bad quarter results.

I have made a calculation error in my Jan26 portfolio gain and I've made the correction. The gain should be 9.13%, not 11% as posted earlier.

Anyway, the Middle East is at war now and the world stock markets generally tumbled.

My Portfolio Oct23

Summary For October 2023

Portfolio @ End of Oct23

Even though KLCI inched up 1.3%, October 2023 was not a good month for my portfolio as it lost 2.1%.

Almost all the stocks in my portfolio suffered loss except MFCB who manage to gain 1.8%, while MI & LEESK were unchanged.

Many stock market investors are hoping for a much better second half but at the moment it seems hard to come by.

Year-to-date, KLCI retreated 3.6% while my portfolio still gain 8.7%.

I'd be happy if my portfolio can end the year with >10% gain.

My Portfolio Sep23

Summary of September 2023

Portfolio @ End of Sep23

In Sep23, Brent oil price went up from USD85 to USD94. As a result, Hibiscus share price soared 18%.

MI also gained a decent 7.5% in the month.

Other than these, other stocks did not change much.

Thanks to the 2 stocks mentioned above, my portfolio manage to gain 1.5% in Sep23, with a YTD gain of 10.9%.

My Portfolio Feb23

 Summary of February 2023

Stock Portfolio @ End of Feb23

Feb23 was not a good month for KLCI as it dropped 2.1%, extending its YTD loss to 2.8%.

My portfolio performance was flat in this month with a slight 0.1% drop in value.

MI was high flying in late Feb23 after it released its FY22Q4 result. Its share price rose 35% in a month.

However, my portfolio was dragged down by other stocks particularly JHM, myNews & Hibiscus.

There was no buy and sell transaction in this month and the total stocks remain at 13.

My Portfolio Oct22

 Summary of October 2022

Portfolio @ End of Oct22

In October 2022, both myNews & Hibiscus performed brilliantly by advancing 24.4% & 15.5% respectively.

However, tech related stocks continue to suffer. JHM lost the most at 16% this month while Gtronic and Krono both fell 11%.

Overall, my portfolio manage to register a small gain of 3.3% this month but YTD is still losing 20%.

My Portfolio Jul22

Summary of July 2022

Portfolio @ End of Jul22

July seems to be a better month as KLCI went up 3.3% while my portfolio gained a modest 2.1%.

Most technology stocks staged a good rebound this month, especially Unisem which gained almost 50% from RM2.10 to RM3.10 after releasing a superb quarterly result.

Besides Unisem, Frontken and Dufu also achieved a commendable set of financial results.

Hibiscus was in the news for the wrong reason and its share price continues to fall from RM1 level to 80sen.

I guess the fall of its share price from RM1.50 earlier was related to this issue.

My Portfolio Apr22

Summary of April 2022

Stock Portfolio @ End of Apr22

The month of April is another lackluster month for my portfolio which lost 2% to bring the overall loss-to-date to 5% this year.

Apart from the retreat of tech-related stocks, the shares of myNews have been heavily sold down 10% as well.

The best performers in Bursa Malaysia are still the plantation stocks which I don't own any of them.

Indonesia's ban on its palm oil export has caught the market by surprise and it certainly helps to push up the CPO price.

Out of the total 14 stocks in my portfolio, 8 of them are suffering from losses now. This doesn't look good indeed.

My Portfolio Feb22

Summary For February 2022

Portfolio @ End of Feb22

In Feb22, KLCI registered a superb monthly gain of 6.35%, mainly due to the gain of blue chips plantation and banking stocks.

Technology related stocks continue to suffer as there seems to be a second round of sell-off.

My portfolio has quite a number of tech-related stocks but it has been "saved" by Hibiscus again. Overall it's a flat month to me.

The hottest headlines recently is undoubtedly the invasion of Ukraine by Russia. It has resulted in the spike in certain commodities price such as crude oil, crude palm oil, soybean and aluminum etc.

When the US warned the world of the potential invasion of Ukraine by Russia earlier in February, I think not many people believed that it will ever happen.

We are living in a modern "civilized" world now. Even though there are still lots military conflicts around the globe, an "unprovoked" invasion of a sovereign country by a super power is almost unheard of.

Perhaps Ukraine or certain country has done something that provoked Russia but such brutal action of destruction to properties and life is definitely not right.

My Portfolio Jan22

Summary for January 2022

Portfolio @ End of Jan22

The first month of year 2022 was not a good month to the stock market as KLCI dropped 3.5%.

Tech-related stocks led the drop with approximately 20% slash in their share prices.

My portfolio could not escape from the bad sentiment and registered 1.2% loss in the month of January 2022.

The share price of the hopeless Fast Energy fell the most at 26% but it did not affect the overall portfolio much as the value is already very small.

JHM & Gtronic were the worst performers apart from Fast but overall loss was minimized by the 23.9% rise in Hibiscus's share price.

I sold part of my Hibiscus shares earlier at 88sen which was at the wrong timing again.

Besides Hibiscus, I sold all my LeonFB shares at 87.5sen, also shortly before its share price advanced to RM1 level.

I realized a bit of profit from myNews just to hold a bit more cash. All these selling acts were in anticipation of upcoming Omicron wave after Chinese New Year.

JHM: New Addition to the "Auspicious" BKIP

Batu Kawan Industrial Park (BKIP) in southern Penang mainland has been a great success since Boon Siew Honda first moved into it in year 2011.

There is no surprise that the state government has started the planning of BKIP2 located south of BKIP at Byram Nibong Tebal.

Up to today, many global technology giants have set up their facilities in BKIP.

Those companies include Hewlett-Packard, VAT, Jabil Circuit, Broadcom (Avago), Western Digital, Boston Scientific, Haemonitics, Micron, Hotayi, Flex, Lam Research, Bosch Automotive etc.

Apart from international companies, many local technology-related companies have set up their plants in BKIP as well.

Most of them are listed in Bursa Malaysia and their presence in BKIP indicate expansion of their businesses.

So, with increased business volumes and profits, their share prices have gained tremendously since they planned their move into BKIP.

Who are they?

Tech Stocks: Still Can Buy Now?

Apart from glove stocks, I think technology stocks are the best performers so far in our stock market. Most of them are close to or even break their previous high set before Covid-19.

This is certainly helped by Nasdaq Composite Index which achieves record high and currently stays in that territory of above 10,000.

Before MCO, I already thought that tech stocks were not cheap. At this moment, of course they are not cheap to me.

They were cheap only in the second half of Mac20 but I failed to grab them.

However, I wish to find out which tech stocks are "relatively cheaper". So I compare their current price with their previous 52-week high before Covid-19.

I just use the simplest PE ratio to compare. If the latest quarterly result is negatively affected by Covid-19, I will not include it in the EPS. I will use the best 4 of the last 5 quarters instead.

Best 4Q Pre-Covid Post-Covid Current PE

GTRONIC 7.85 2.44 2.50 2.37 30.2

UWC 8.94 3.39 4.33 4.21 47.1
VITROX 18.45 9.57 10.46 10.24 55.5
SAM 64.6 8.64 8.23 8.00 12.4
REVENUE 2.76 1.53 1.31 1.22 44.2

MYEG 7.1 1.7 1.61 1.51 21.3
KRONO 4.16 0.96 0.68 0.555 13.3
K1 0.86 0.245 0.595 0.425 49.4
GPACKET -4.8 0.935 1.65 0.66

This is not an exhaustive list of all technology-related stocks listed in Bursa Malaysia. Some may not be real tech stocks.

Stocks in red represent those which have already exceeded their previous high before Covid-19. About half of them have achieved this feat and this just shows how hot the tech stocks are now.

For others, it looks like they are not far away and are on the way to break their previous pre-Covid high except Krono, Notion, Revenue, KESM & Unisem which have more than 20% to go.

We can see that most tech stocks have a PE ratio of around 30 and above now. There are quite a few of them with PE around 50.

Those "relatively cheaper" ones by PE ratio include MPI, Notion, SAM, MYEG & Krono.

MYEG is not really a tech stock and recently market seems to give it a PE of around 20.

There are quite a lot of one-off gains in Notion's EPS so it's not really cheap until we have a glimpse of the profit contribution of its new projects soon.

SAM looks really cheap, may be because of its aerospace business which is expected to go downhill in the near future even though its equipment segment is growing quite well.

Krono has been largely affected by its huge impairment loss in its latest quarter. Its ability to recover its core business in a short period of time is in doubt. If it's able to turn profitable next quarter, then I think its share price will rise.

K1 and GPacket have cloud related business like Krono. However, recently both seem to be under "goreng mode".

MPI is well established with lots of cash. Market doesn't seem to give it a higher PE like others and I'm not sure why as I don't know much about this company. Perhaps it is already stable and lack growth potential?

Of course we can't buy or sell base on PE ratio alone. A stock with PE of 40 may have a PE of only 20 one year later if it grows and doubles its profit.

As almost all the good tech stocks have high PE now, I think investors should either wait for a major price correction or invest in those which have great growth potential.
